SBTI History

SBTI originates from USA, founded by Steve Zinkgraf. Steve was heavily involved in the flagship Six Sigma deployment at Motorola during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. From 1994 to 1996, Steve led the initial deployment of Six Sigma in AlliedSignal's (now Honeywell) Engineered Materials Sector delivering large financial benefit in the program's first 12 months. After leaving AlliedSignal, he started SBTI in 1997 with a passion for delivering results to make a difference in other companies.

The start-up of SBTI Europe was triggered by the Six Sigma deployment in Volvo Cars in 2001. The founders and present owners of SBTI Europe, Anders Blidner and Håkan Wallin, decided to launch a Six Sigma training and consulting company based in Göteborg, Sweden. Looking for a partnership with an established provider of Six Sigma methodologies they found SBTI, based in San Marcos, Texas.

Launch of SBTI Europe AB was in October 2002. Immediately after its inception SBTI Europe started to support ongoing deployments of Six Sigma throughout Europe. At the same time focus was also to recruit consultants and trainers for future engagements. Chiron Vaccines (now Novartis Vaccines) was the first major European based client trusting SBTI Europe to help them deploying Six Sigma.

The growth continued when SBTI was appointed exclusive provider of Lean Six Sigma training for a major telecommunication corporation. SBTI has provided services to this company for more than 10 years and has expanded the engagement from DMAIC into DfSS and Service design.

In 2005, SBTI was again engaged in the pharmaceutical industry to provide deployment support to one of the major global players in this industry. The engagement expanded 2009 when SBTI became global partner to support the company’s corporate wide Lean Sig Sigma deployment.

Aside from these major engagements SBTI also is involved in smaller Lean Sig Sigma initiatives like providing one-off Green Belt -, Black Belt training and mentoring. We also deliver our popular Open training classes at least bi-annually, since 2006. SBTI Europe has always had an international perspective when developing its business. Since the majority of our European based clients has operations in US, Asia and also in the Middle East and Latin-America we have had the opportunity to follow our customers. Due to this international presence of many of our clients we have also been able to take advantage of the global SBTI network for providing local consultants.

During the last years, there has been a shift in how Six Sigma is deployed by many companies. The shift is from using Six Sigma to reduce cost to grow revenue. Growing revenue is about increasing yield in existing processes and delighting customers with new products and services.
